Basic Skills Initiative Problem Statement
In 2008, two years before the Global Skills for College Completion project began, Dr. Gail Mellow, President, LaGuardia Community College wrote The Basic Skills Problem Statement to bring attention to the crisis affecting basic skills students’ success in American community colleges. Read the statement for some historical facts and to see how Dr. Mellow envisioned the implementation of the project.
